During a detailed anatomy examination the doctor reviews abdominal structures and the abdominal wall, together with the measurements used to follow growth.

The abdomen is examined alongside the rest of the anatomy rather than in isolation, so findings are considered in the context of the whole examination.

How clearly structures can be seen varies between examinations. Gestational age, the baby's position, and individual imaging conditions all affect what can be visualised on a given day.

If your doctor suggests a repeat or additional examination, it usually means more information would be helpful. It does not by itself mean that something is wrong.
