What Is It?

A sample of placental tissue.

Chorionic villus sampling, usually shortened to CVS, is a diagnostic procedure in which a small sample of placental tissue is obtained, using ultrasound guidance.

Like amniocentesis, it is a diagnostic test rather than a screening assessment, and the sample is analysed in a laboratory.
